| Travel agents urge caution on PPD |

The air travel industry has joined the transport sector in warning the UK government to think again over its plans to replace Air Passenger Duty [APD] and replace it with a per-plane duty (PPD).
Speaking at the Association of British Travel Agents' (Abta) Travel Matters conference this week, Mark Tanzer, CEO of Abta, which cautiously supports the switch from APD to PPD, said the government should be fair in its taxation policies.
We need to be able operate in a fiscal regime which takes a fair level of tax, he said. As a successful industry we want to pay the taxes that are needed to address the Treasury's current problems, but fair taxes structured and implemented following proper industry engagement |
